Band face pull

Pull a band toward your face with high elbows and finish by rotating your hands back, training the rear delts, upper back and rotator cuff.

How to do it

  1. 01Anchor the band at face height to a sturdy post or door frame and hold both ends with your palms facing down.
  2. 02Step back until the band is taut, stand tall with your arms reaching toward the anchor and lightly brace your abs.
  3. 03Pull the band toward your face, elbows wide and at or slightly above shoulder height.
  4. 04At the end, rotate your hands back so they finish beside your ears, squeezing your shoulder blades together.
  5. 05Straighten your arms slowly back toward the anchor and repeat.

Common mistakes

  • Elbows dropping into a row — keep them up at shoulder height.
  • Leaning back to pull — stand tall with your abs braced and use a lighter band if needed.
  • Skipping the rotation at the end — finish with your hands beside your ears, higher than your elbows.
