Chin tuck

Draw your head straight back into a "double chin" to work the deep neck muscles — a quick exercise to break up long periods of sitting.

How to do it

  1. 01Sit or stand tall with relaxed shoulders and eyes looking straight ahead; you can also lie on your back with your head on the floor.
  2. 02Draw your head straight back, as if it slides along a rail, making a "double chin".
  3. 03Keep your eyes level without tilting your head down or up; lying down, gently press the back of your neck toward the floor.
  4. 04Hold for 2–3 seconds, feeling the back of your neck lengthen, then release.

Common mistakes

  • Tilting the head down toward the chest — keep your eyes level and move straight back.
  • Pushing so hard it feels uncomfortable — use moderate effort; it should never hurt.
  • Shrugging and tensing up — relax your shoulders and move only your head.
