Hamstring stretch

A seated forward fold with straight legs that stretches the hamstrings, calves and lower back.

How to do it

  1. 01Sit on the floor with your legs straight and together in front of you, toes pointing up.
  2. 02Sit up tall, then hinge forward from the hips, reaching toward your feet.
  3. 03Stop at a moderate stretch in the back of your thighs, keeping your back long rather than forcing your hands to your toes.
  4. 04Breathe slowly and deeply, easing a little further with each exhale.

Common mistakes

  • Rounding the back to reach farther — hinge from the hips and keep your spine long.
  • Bouncing to go deeper — hold still and relax into it with your breath.
